triple j Unearthed launches new website with social features

Triple j Unearthed have redesigned their website, boasting an exciting new design and innovative functionality for both artists and music fans.

If you’re an artist, you can now embed videos on your page, list your upcoming gigs, keep better track of your airplay, streaming and download statistics via the backend of your Unearthed profile and enjoy improved audio quality of your music with a bitrate increase to 192kbps.

Meanwhile, if you’re a music fan, you can now adjust your own profile page to follow your favourite artists, triple j presenters, super users and likeminded music fans, create and share playlists of Unearthed music, like and collect your favourite tracks and embed Unearthed tracks to other parts of the web.

Spotify kick off ‘EMERGE’ comp in Australia and New Zealand

A mountain of Australian artists have been selected in the Spotify Emerge Program across Australia and New Zealand.

The Emerge program aims to find emerging stars in the music industry and bring them more widespread acclaim. The list of Australians up for the prize this year reads like a kickarse festival bill. The Aston Shuffle, Gang Of Youths, MT, Max & Bianca, Chance Waters and Miracle, Gossling and The Acid are all in the running, while Tom Lark and Smashproof represent New Zealand’s heavyweight contenders.

The winner will receive an exclusive Spotify session, HP technology valued at $5,000 and a promotional package to assist them with a future release.

WOMAD announce largest ever philanthropic donation

On Friday 7 March, WOMADelaide 2014 moves on from exceptional performances into philanthropic territory, following the announcement of the largest philanthropic bequest the festival has ever seen.

The opening night function will see Michael Abbott AO QC unveil the bequest to the WOMADelaide Foundation to the tune of $400,000 from Mr Mohindar Dhillon, an ambassador for Indian classical music in Australia and long-time friend and supporter of the festival.

The funds will be used to establish the SPIRIT OF INDIA FUND to support and perpetuate the work of Mohindar’s efforts over many years in the presentation of Indian classical performance at WOMADelaide.

Fly FBi to greater heights & win a trip to London for two

FBi Radio are showing their supporters just how much they love them by offering the ultimate reward for legendary supporter of the station. They’ve just announced they’ll be sending one FBi supporter plus a bestie on a trip to London with British Airways, thanks to the crew at British Council. Big Scary win the 9th Australian Music Prize

Melbourne’s impeccable duo Big Scary have won the acclaimed Australian Music Prize for their exceptional second album Not Art and fattened their purse in the process, taking home the $30,000 cash prize.

Big Scary were announced as winners at the official ceremony in Sydney, beating a bundle of quality nominees, including Jagwar Ma, Horrorshow, Jen Cloher, Dialectrix, Beaches, Kirin J Callinan, and Cloud Control.

Not Art was selected by the 11 member judging panel made up of artists, journalists and music retailers from across Australia including Dave Faulkner (Chairperson), Bernard Zuel (Sydney Morning Herald), Renee Geyer, Tim Levinson (Urthboy), Chris Johnston (The Age), Mikey Cahill (Herald Sun), Mike Glynn (JB Hi FI), Christopher Powell (Blackwood Sounds, Adelaide – retail), Shannon Logan (Jet Black Cat Music, Brisbane – retail), Chris Berkley (Red Eye Records, Sydney – retail) and Nate Nott (Polyester Records, Melbourne – retail).
