Tragic car accident at SXSW leaves two dead
Two people have died in Austin after a car driving at high speed broke through a barrier and drove into a crowd of people at SXSW.
The car in question was being pursued by the police for drunk driving when it struck the crowd outside The Mohawk on Red River Street. The driver has been arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder and 23 charges of aggravated assault.
21 people were taken to hospital for injuries of which five remain critical.
Cherry buys Melbourne venue Yah Yah’s
Saving the day for live music lovers, Cherry co-owners James Young and ‘Lazy’ Pete Lewis have confirmed their purchase of Yah Yah’s.
When the lease for the late-night venue ran up in February, interested buyers were given till March 28 to make an offer. It would have then been up to the new owner to do whatever they liked with the space.
Confirming the purchase on Thursday, James Young has promised to keep the bar a music venue The Music reported yesterday.
Two new venues for Sydney siders
In real need of some positivity after last month’s rushed lockout laws, Sydney has gained two new music venues in the form Erskineville’s The Roller Den and The Lewisham Hotel in the inner west.
In another win, both venues lay outside the Sydney CBD Entertainment Precinct and therefore won’t be subject to the 1am lockout and 3am last drinks laws.
Having opened its doors on 7 March, The Roller Den has some great Australian shows lined up with performances from L-Fresh the Lion, Stonefield and The Delta Riggs.
