The National Indigenous Music Awards have announced that the legendary Yothu Yindi will be celebrated at this year's ceremony. Along with some top performances by some of our best indigenous acts, the NIMA's will be dedicating the event to the iconic musical group and their legacy.

Says Music NT's Manager Mark Smith:
"It’s a very exciting time with so many Indigenous artists doing so well. We are talking to a number of indigenous artists and they all want to jump on stage to be a part of this historical NIMA concert. With so many artists across the country we look forward to an amazing celebration of Yothu Yindi and the bands legacy."

The full line up for the ceremony is to be revealed in June, but for now, it has been announced that some of the original members of Yothu Yindi will perform, as well as Kutcha Edwards. Triple J's Unearthed program has also launched a competition where, for the second time, the station will be looking for the freshest sound in Indigenous music - like Thelma Plum before them, the winning act will perform at the ceremony.

The NIMA's will be held at the Darwin Ampitheatre on August 10. Head to www.nima.com.au for more information.
