Believe it or not there was once a time The Black Eyed Peas were known for crafting authentic 90's hip hop, way back before Fergie joined the group and they became the pop mega-machine they are known as today. After ridiculously high levels of success, BEP have once again started making tracks as the trio of Apl.de.Ap, Taboo, and Will.i.Am, and while Fergie is still a member of the group, her solo work has allowed them to focus on making hip hop again.

Hence, new single "Yesterday", a really fun callback to classic hip hop which has the trio rhyming circles around a bunch of mini-covers and references to tracks by the likes of Brand Nubian, Wu-Tang Clan, LL Cool J, Das EFX, and A Tribe Called Quest amongst others.

It remains to be seen whether or not BEP will keep turning out this style of hip hop rather than the hip-pop they have become known for.
