The Queenscliff Music Festival is proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 Emerging Artist Grant! The grant is awarded to support local musicians in the regions of Geelong, Barwon South West and the Bellarine Peninsula in the early stages of their career; open to any artists in this stage, the grant is awarded based on artistic merit and potential for sustainability in the funding period.

The recipients of the award this year are:

Yirrmal Marika
$5000 will be used for a mentoring project between established musicians and Yirrmal and as such, will see the musician attend organised sessions with at least five mentors in creating six original songs. These will then be performed as part of a full set of material to local audiences within regional Victoria.

The Murlocs
$4000 will go towards the funding of recording, mixing, mastering and marketing of the band's debut album. The first single was made in April though due to a lack of funds, the rest of the LP's creation had to be put on hold. The final product will be sent to the Czech Republic to be pressed on 12" vinyl at one of the world's most highly regarded vinyl pressing plants in GZ Media.

The Sweethearts
$1000 is going towards the production of a CD by the band, with the help of mentors Liam McGorry (Saskwatch) and Jarad Brown (Eagle and the Worm). The songs will be played on stage and featured in a proposed second season of Heart and Soul, the documentary series which the band featured on the ABC.

The above recipients join an awesome QMF line up for this year, the list and further information of which can be found at www.qmf.net.au.
