Courtney Barnett signs to Remote Control
Melbourne’s indie darling and skyrocking international superstar Courtney Barnett has signed onto Remote Control Records. Barnett will be releasing her debut album later this year (Yay! Excitement! etc.) on her own imprint label Milk! Records, which will be supported by her new BFFs at Remote Control. This news follows the announcement earlier this week that her The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas record will be released in the United States through Mom + Pop Music. Good times.
Odd Future banned from New Zealand
Local New Zealand authorities have banned hip hop group Odd Future from entering the country after it was decided their presence at the Rapture Festival would be a threat to public safety.
New Zealand Immigration officials issued a formal statement explaining the decision, suggesting the group had incited violence at previous NZ shows and their presence would be a threat to public order or the public interest.
Odd Future had been added to the Rapture bill to play alongside hip hop powerhouse Eminem after major support act Kendrick Lamar was forced to withdraw due to conflicting schedules.
Deezer closes Australian office
Popular online music streaming service Deezer has announced it will close its local office in Australia, and New Zealand Managing Director Thomas Heymann will leave the company today. Deezer will continue to provide a full service to users, but now its regional business dealings from Australia and NZ will be managed by the Singapore and Paris offices.
The Trouble with Templeton sign to Bella Union
Brisbane indie kids The Trouble with Templeton have scored a deal with influential UK label Bella Union for the release of their debut album Rookie for the world, excluding Australia and New Zealand.
Bella Union founder Simo Raymonde was keen to add the band to the Bella Union roster, alongside seminal acts Fleet Foxes, Flaming Lips, The Dirty Three and Father John Misty after falling head over heels after listening to ‘Six Months in a Cast’.
New website for Poncho
The lads at Poncho have unveiled a sparkly new website / online television channel with daily videos. While their original series Classic Poncho is now over, they’re still riding on the success of previous programs - live music show ABABCd, travel program Vacant Vacations and the weekly Poncho Podcast in 2013. In 2014 they will deliver an assortment of fresh content to the website, including a new gossip show aptly titled Trash Slags, a cooking program Jimmy’s Diner and an animation Shoot the Wombat.

Keep Sydney Open appeal fires up
After the recent news that Sydney’s new 1.30am lock out laws would be introduced on 24 February, The Sydney Late Night Culture Alliance have ramped up their campaign to keep the new legislation at bay, and keep Sydney’s thriving night life alive.
The Sydney Late Night Culture Alliance was formed by a collection of key Sydney live music and performance venues, cultural organisations, artists and music industry stakeholders, who all bound together to fight against these new laws. You can do your part by signing the petition and helping them reach their goal of 20,000 signatures.
